About me:


​Between 2008 and 2011, in my master study, I was working on different topics such as natural language processing, image processing and an interdisciplinary topic which was data mining in cancer research.  Since 23rd of October 2013, I am a doctoral student in the group of Graph Theory and complex Network Analysis under the supervision of Professor Katharina A. Zweig. Before starting my PhD, I was a faculty member in Computer Science department working as an Instructor.

About my research

​ About my research In the first year of my PhD, I collaborated with Dr. Markus Moessner in the University Hospital, Heidelberg on a large dataset which was collected from online group chat psychotherapeutic sessions, in order to identify some statistical patterns in the temporal networks deduced from the chat-log data. As most of the chat-log data contain misaddressed statements, the preprocessing phase was a crucial level before going further to do. To tackle this, I have designed some methods including a set of prediction rules to preprocess this large dataset. One of the research question was what is happening in a session? how can the activity of the members be evaluated? Searching into the network analytic methods, it turned out that centrality indices are very helpful in intuitively exploring the process going within the network. The first challenge was involving multiple criteria as the properties of the nodes and evaluating the nodes’ importance with respect those criteria. I propose a new exploratory method based on Fuzzy Operators to consider multiple aspects of centrality in a network. Focusing on this topic, it turned out that, Fuzzy operators including a number of linguistic quantifiers are very useful for the evaluation of influential nodes with respect to multiple aspects of centrality in weighted, temporal and multiplex networks. The use of these operators in our proposed model allows exploring the nodes that have different patterns of behaviors in their rankings. I am currently working on different modeling decisions to analyze the sensitivity of nodes’ rankings in multilayer networks. For more detail about my research, see my homepage: www.stavassoli.com
